The Vacancy
🍳 Make a Difference as a Cook at Sherwood House
Do you have experience working at kitchens in care homes, schools, restaurants, hotels, catering events, or other settings? If not, would you like to train to become a professional Cook?
Join us to enjoy a flexible role in a peaceful, countryside setting, where you’ll be able to make a difference in the community while doing what you love. Sherwood House is a registered care home providing daily person-centred care to 19 elderly residents. Nestled in the award-winning village of Linby, just outside Hucknall, it offers a tranquil environment surrounded by greenery and local charm.
Your Role as a Cook
As our Cook, you’ll lead an exceptional daily dining experience for our care home residents by planning and preparing nutritional meals for them. Their meals should be tailored to their preferences and dietary needs, as well as for special occasions and cultural celebrations.
You will ensure food hygiene and safety standards are maintained at all times. As you will plan meals, you will also be managing stock, food orders, and kitchen equipment. You will support and be supported by kitchen assistants and volunteers.
Working hours: shifts cover lunch and dinner service. This service is open every day of the year and shifts include weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. Occasionally, you will be required to attend training at our Head Office, which is based in Clifton.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you if you can prepare meals for large groups, while working flexibly and maintaining high hygiene standards. Experience in hospitality or catering is ideal, but first and foremost, you must understand the importance of nutrition for older adults. You should be organised, reliable, and customer-focused.
Getting to Linby: Due to limited public transport, drivers are desirable (but not essential). Sherwood House is a 7-minute drive from Hucknall High Street or a 20-minute walk from the nearest bus stop.
Apply Now: complete a quick application form and attach your CV. Interviews are ongoing so you will hear from us within 1 week from applying, with an invitation or a decline. You may be required to complete a practical test during your interview at the home.
